Default Folding an overpair on the flop

People in this forum -- good people -- keep telling me not to fold overpairs against unknowns. But yet I keep doing it.

Villains, alas, are unknown.

This looks like a good spot to do it. Happy Birthday.

Happy birthday Pr. Joker.

I'd say a fold is fine given the PF action.

Go get drunk already.

It looks like a good fold to me.

I wonder about the flop bet. It's not like there's much chance of it getting checked through. (I suppose maybe we learn more by betting, though.)

Not only do we learn more by betting, but if the PF capper raises, MP might fold -- I'd love for him to lay down some overcards.

Thanks everybody -- I will get hammered tonight.

Also, I'm throwing a monster party tomorrow night; Shant and Jason have already been invited, but the invitation is open to any SoCal 2+2ers that want to come. PM me for details.

If the preflop capper raises you're likely drawing to a set or UTG has something like AK as well -- so why does it matter if MP folds his AK?

I think you played this hand well. I agree with both the fold and the flop bet. The way this hand is going, it's going to be very expensive to get to a showdown, you're probably already behind, and even if you do have the best hand right now, it's vulnerable.

Well, okay, but if you're ahead and MP folds, I think he's folding 0-1 unique overcards. That'd be fine if we knew you were ahead (you'd like to put pressure on a 3-outer under those circumstances), but there's a really good chance you're not ahead, and, if you are, they could both have AK (and they're not both folding).

I'm still thinking about the information part.

While I'm doing that, let me join the Happy Birthday chorus.
