Default Poker in the future

Right now there are ~75,000 players on Party Poker (the most popular site) during the peak time. How many players do you think there will be playing at the most popular site in 5 years? 10? Just wondering when (if ever) people think the poker fad will begin to die down.

Let's get right down to brass tacks: Gambling is FUN. Poker is FUN. Vegas has made a killing off the fact that gambling is fun for 50 or 75 years.

It may calm down some, especially if TV coverage decreases because the nielson ratings drop resulting from some of the lousy poker on TV. ("Celebrity Indian Poker?")

But, unless the bible banging community who are fundamentally opposed to gambling in any form, or the government which is fundamentally opposed to anything it can't tax, manage to make online poker illegal, IMO it's not going to go away. And it will remain basically healthy for a long time unless interfered with or stopped.

Just one opinion.

I think a better question is how much tougher will online poker become in the future. Sounds weird having 'online poker' and 'tough' in the same sentence.

Party makes more money of multitabling winning players than it does off the fish. If you follow party poker stock you can find out what the player burn rate is (extremely high).

The longer it continues, the higher the percentage of good players there will be.

Not really, online poker is already significantly tougher than live poker. If you don't believe me play a 109 sng then a $125 single table qual at the wsop, or play 3/6 online than at a casino.

3/6 in a casino is cake. People blow through $100 leave the table and I see them sitting back down a couple minutes later with another $100 because they think they got unlucky but you see how bad they are and take that money. Of course I was running pretty good at the Casino.

I agree, online poker and casino poker are both cake right now. My question is, in 5 or 10 years, how many people will be playing on the largest poker site? I'd really like to hear guesses, I personally think the range could be anywhere from 5,000 to 300,000+ in 10 years.

Great range there.

I say 1 person to 1 billion. How's that for a range?
