Default Extra Blind, major leak?

What is the standard practice, or what do you guys prefer, in regards to coming to a table and posting a blind? Should I be just waiting for the big blind to come around? I find that in .50/1.00 I usually just jump right in. This might be a major leak in my game. How do you guys handle it?
Thanks for the help.

Posting from the CO is usually my limit. If you're at the table any earlier, just make some notes for reads. Posting too early is obviously -Ev.

In a live game I'll post immediately. Online I usually want to be pretty close to the button, maybe one off the CO

I wait until the BB rolls around.

I wait for the BB as well. I wouldn't call it a "major" leak unless you're multi-tabling and do it on every table or table hop quite a bit. I prefer to wait because I can get my opponent's observed hands into PT (If I haven't already been lurking at the table before hand and doing this, or both).

Far far far far far far from a major leak.
So so far.

Wait for BB, make notes and get PT stats up. Then back to improving post flop(Thats where the big leaks are )

Posting in the cutoff is where it's at when you sit at a 10-handed table. Let's say you are playing a 1/2 blind structure. You pay 1 small bet to see 8 hands. That's 0.125 small bets / hand. If you want until the BB comes, you pay 1.5 small bets for 10 hands. That's 0.15 small bets per hand. Posting in the cutoff is better from a value standpoint than posting in the BB at a 10 handed table. The first 8 hands come cheaper, and not only that, but you have the second best possible position for your post instead of the second worst.

Well - statistically it's the smart thing to do but by waiting you automatically tag yourself as a tight player.

You lose any disguise you had with good hands by waiting and miss out on winning hands.

I think every hand you NOT playing is -EV. Plus - if you jump right in YOUR A FISH and I like people thinking I'm a fish.

It's certainly not a major leak - it's not like you are in the Big blind - you have position advantage remember.
