Re: Making deals in televised tournaments?
I think there was an article in sports illustrated that talked about deal making not being allowed on the wpt.

Re: Making deals in televised tournaments?
That doesn't mean a damn thing. There's no way they can prevent people from making deals, obviously. The only thing this does is makes it more dangerous for the player, since the casino can't facilitate deals. The WPT is extremely stupid for doing such a thing. They should set rules or allow players to restructure payouts according to the way they want.
The WSOP doesn't have such rules. I read on PokerPages they do for the Circuit, but I don't think that's true at all. I know that the first event, the $1,500 NL at the Rio, was chopped by Allen and Scott. The chopping of money doesn't automatically mean they aren't playing hard, either. In that event, Scott would have made that same semi-bluff all-in even if they were playing for all the money. |

Re: Making deals in televised tournaments?
that's my point. in most every big tournament today, prize money when you get to that point is pretty much not what you're playing for. i mean, the difference between 2nd and 1st is usually negligable for most. you're already getting a six-figure score (usually). the pride, prestige and marketability that comes with a win is the most important thing.

Does anyone ever do this? Sometimes it seems like this Any thoughts? [/ QUOTE ] MY UNDERSTANDING (You can Google it or someone can post something to back this up) is that the 2004 WSOP TOC was chopped last year by all but DN -- who supposedly does not do chops. Of course that was $2M winner take all so I believe they would all be happy with the TV time and a couple hundred thou each. The only money issue I have seen re. other TV tournaments (and tourneys in general) are related to backers playing at the same final table as people they are backing. I agree with Martin de Knijff's take on this topic. http://www.cardplayer.com/cpeurope/a...11&m_id=17 |
