Default Next Fed Chairman?

Greenspan's stepping down in January. I know he is not in the top three, but would Arthur Laffer make a great replacement?

Define "great". Would he stop government-sanctioned counterfeiting and return us to the gold standard? If not, then no.

The top names being thrown about are Martin Feldstein, Ben Bernanke, Lawrency Lindsey, and Glenn Hubbard. Who really knows?

The next Fed chairman will likely face two big challenges: (a) dealing with the devaluation of the dollar and the much greater potential problems if Asian banks start to sell dollars en masse and (b) deciding how and whether to inform the government that their fiscal policy is totally insane right now.

My bet is that Bush picks somebody who will not step up to the plate for part b.

Good Question.

Who is Bush's personal financial advisor?

I bet she is on the short list.

I like Arthur Laffer. Definitely for smaller government, less interference. Richard Epstein would be better.

I am very worried that Bush is going to [censored] this one up. In many respects, this appointment is much more important than that of the SCOTUS appointments. I know some people will disagree with me on that, but I will stand by that statement.
