Default noob has a question bout bets

I need a little help see.
What sort of things should be considered when determining the precise amount to bet when you have a good but not great hand in a small stakes game of say 6 people. I'm not so much talking about player proclivities, but anything mathematical in nature.
Is it really just as simple as betting as much as you believe will thin the field?

thanks

This is much too complex to be answered properly.
Are you talking about No Limit?
Thining the field is not the only reason you bet. You need to read some books to help your understanding of how poker is played. Start with Getting Started In Hold'Em, If you are a NL player, read HOH 1 and 2, or SSHE for Limit play.
