what are odds that you get dealt a 1-color flop?

i thought that it would be 25/51 * 24/50 because 25 of the 51 cards after the first one are the same color as the first and then 24 of the remaining 50 are the same color as the 1st...

but that's 23%, which is 3.34-1 and the bet pays 8-1

so i did something wrong...

It pays 8 to 1. Off hand, anyone know the odds of an all red or black flop?

It's a little worse than 1 out of 8. You can either figure that out with math or by knowing how it goes when you gamble against the house.

ok, i see u have ot choose red or black

so then u just have to multiply by 26/52 (.5) for the first card to be your color

that's still 11.5%, which is <8-1

plus u have info on your holdings

if they let u bet after seeing ur cards, then 10 of u can join a table and collude to see if red or black has better odds of flopping...

You have to guess the correct color too. So you can't just calculate the odds of the 2nd and 3rd card being the same as the first. Other than that, I'm not sure if the rest of your calculation is correct.

If you're playing with a 4 color deck you are hosed.

It doesn't pay 8 to 1, it pays 8 for 1. (Think craps prop bets.) 8 for 1 is 7 to 1.

So it looks like, in whole numbers, the odds are 8-1 and it pays 7-1.
