I'm definitely raising the original bet, but calling would let you get out of the hand. And that's what you probably should have done... there was a lot of action there.. they all can't have the flush draw.

We have three checks and an overbet, which will usually be a strong hand which wants protection from such a draw heavy board. My initial thinking is that if someone has a straight, set, or top two they would have bet earlier to protect there hand, so maybe I can raise and get this hand HU. On the other hand, there are so many people in this pot, first and second position could have a big hand waiting for a check raise (as is the case here). It's hard not to at least call with this hand, even though it is 1/5th of our stack. Considering the number of limpers in the pot though, our hand is NOT all that strong here. There is no way we can overcall an allin with this hand. I think we'll find T9, J8, or a set here way too often to make this call profitable. Actually, unless it was a really loose game (as this apparently is), I'd have a hard time holding on to bottom set here.

The only reason you're calling the initial bet here is if you fear a push by a LP player. So when that happens, it's probably smart to let it go.

Come over the top and push the first bet. But after you called, you have to fold to the push and call(s)

With these stack sizes you absoultely cannot just call the initial flop bet. You need to decide if you're ahead or behind. If you're ahead, push. If you're behind fold. You cannot call of that much of your stack on a draw heavy board with others left to act. Personally, I'm pretty aggressive at this stage and don't mind if I get knocked out for the chance to double up early. So, I'd push initially on the flop. It's very difficult to put people on a set with this hand because with two pair they would need the last two 9s or 7s, or Ts and Ts would often raise pre-flop.
The way you played it I'd fold after the all-in and call. You're getting 3.5 to 1 odds. Your two pair is no longer good. You have 4 outs and are a little over 5 to 1 to fill up by the river. |
