Default AQs, My impersonation of a calling station

MP1 has TAG-like numbers. I suspect SB is a TAG, but my read is still tentative, and I don't have any numbers on him. My table image should be solid.

Party Poker 5/10 Hold'em (9 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
UTG calls, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, <font color="#CC3333">MP1 raises</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero 3-bets</font>, <font color="#666666">3 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">SB caps</font>, <font color="#666666">1 fold</font>, UTG folds, MP1 calls, Hero calls.

Flop: (14 SB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(3 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">SB bets</font>, MP1 calls, Hero calls.

How close is this? I think I'd fold without the backdoor flush draw, but I'm not sure.

Turn: (8.50 BB) A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(3 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">SB bets</font>, MP1 calls, Hero calls.

A good spot for a raise and fold to a 3-bet?

River: (11.50 BB) J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(3 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">SB bets</font>, MP1 calls, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 14.50 BB

I wasn't happy about overcalling, but I was less happy with folding after showing no aggression post-flop.

Meh. I hated my play on this hand.

Here's my thinking. After the flop, you are getting 16:1 on the call, which completes the action. you need 3 clean outs per 51 cards; with two backdoor draws and two overcards, i think calling here is safe. I do like raising the turn for information, and using judgment if the opponents show more strength. barring any extra info, if I raised the turn and got three bet or worse I'd likely fold to opponents AK or better. The hand ranges look like {TT-AA,AK} for SB and {QQ,misc.} give or take. Unless your opponents sandwich you, you have enough odds to see the showdown. Personally, I'd only raise for info purposes though. I think I'd call on the river, but one of my weaknesses is missing river value bets.

You have a good hand, backdoor flush and straight draws, you ace outs may be good. You can't fold. But you can't really raise unless you want to fold to reraise (and reraise will not necessarily mean better ace). So I guess I call this down if the betting does not go crasy.

Default A Bit of a Spoiler...

I will make three comments here:

1. I was a little bit surprised when you overcalled the river. I'm glad you posted this, because I remember thinking it was an interesting hand and thought that your position was definitely the hardest of the three.

2. MP1 was more tight-neutral or tight-passive, rather than truly taggish. I was suprised to see his hand and thought he greatly underplayed it post-flop and should've folded pre-flop.

3. I like to think SB is a tag.

Why think of folding the flop with 2 overcards and getting 16:1? Is TAG so TAG'ish that you think your overcards are no good? I would raise the turn.. call a reraise... then call down if re-raised.

I'm guessing MP1 had AT and you had AK.

The river is tough but I might be able to find a fold here, the best you can hope for is SB to be betting something like KK and MP1 calling AQ which cuts your odds by half, maybe if he's bad he'd call with QQ but I don't see both instances happening enough.

If you knew SB to be a decent player, I see no reason to overcall the river. Since you seem unsure it's probably worth a call. Maybe. The thing is, best case you're chopping. SB isn't betting KK again after being called in two places on the turn unless your read is off.

Yuck. If you raise the turn and are 3-bet your hand is almost NEVER good.

The river is closer than anyone seems to think here. And I definitely don't mean closer to a raise.

I'd play it the same except river. I think a fold is fine here. SB definitely won't bet every street without beating AQ
