Quick Preflop Question
I've got 2k in a bodog $11. Very early, and average is 1.3k. BLinds 10/20. Villain has only shown down good hands but is clearly steaming from an earlier beat and getting pushy with his new stack. He covers and raises to 170 (?!) from MP. I'm in SB with AKo.

Re: Quick Preflop Question
Personally I think an oversize raise like this is most often a mid PP...
If he does indeed have 55-99 or whatever, I think a donkish player calls your push here... |

Re: Quick Preflop Question
two big (broadway) cards do this just often, or more often than mid pairs.

Re: Quick Preflop Question
I think a push is a little overkill here. However, I'm definitely repopping to 700ish or maybe even 1k and pushing any flop. I think a push just screams out AK and you might get looked up by small/mid PPs, which, while isn't horrible, isn't the best of situations. I think there's an outside chance you get looked up by AQ, but that's about the only hand calling that you have dominated. Why is everyone always so scared to just take the lead with AK preflop when it's still deep stacked and resort to pushing? In this case, you're probably just going to pick up ~200 chips, but I think you can get a lot more out of it by repopping big instead of pushing.
When it's still relatively deep, I actually like a call even more than a push and then c/r any kind of threatening flop to what is most likely a pocket pair that villain holds. If you flop top pair, lead into him and see if you can extract some extra chips besides from just a continuation bet. |
