Default Live L08 Buy in with a Kill

I played in my first live Limit Omaha 8 (3/6) game last night and was surprised by the Kill rule. The local rule was to make the next hand a kill if a player scooped a pot $50 or more. I was always hesitant to play kill pots in holdem because I didn't like how much it could hit my stack only to make things twice as hard to recover. I get the feeling that I should adjust my position for O8 games and just make sure my buy-in is sufficient.

Do others feel the same?
Thanks...

Leading Man - Different individuals in your game probably react to the kill in different ways. Those who try to steal blinds or intimidate with pre-flop raises will probably be even more likely to do so when there is a kill blind and the limits are doubled.

Others may shy away from playing for double the stakes.

In my humble opinion, what you should do always depends on your particular opponents. Whenever you're not sure about what to do, playing tightly (only solid starting hands and requiring a nice fit with the flop to continue) cannot get you in much trouble.

Just my opinion.

LO8 with a full or half-kill for B&M games is pretty standard.

at least in AC.

yeah, it was the same in Foxwoods last time I was there. Regarding the kill, if you are worried about the stakes, just tighten up on the starting hand requirements. I just tend to avoid the kill hands unless I have something that I'm really comfortable seeing a flop.

I'd probably buy in for a little more than normal than a regular game, but not much since I tend to avoid these hands anyway. Kill hands tend to get raised automatically by someone trying to steal. Just sit out the first couple kill hands, and you'll usually get a good feel of the table dynamics when the stakes go up.

Just a comment about people / O8. At Foxwoods, there was a list of about 60 deep for 2/4 HE, but no wait for the O8. People just watched in confusion holding their chips over an hour waiting to get on a table. It probably would have been donating for them to play, but it's playing cards which is what I want to do if I go to the casino. It was the first time I ever played O8 in a casino since I didn't want stand around bored. I like it though I have a long way to go.

Thanks. You got me thinking now. Do you think its ever a good idea to try to isolate pre-flop if I suspect somebody of trying to bully like that?

Leading Man - Yes.

Try re-raising one time and see if the tactic works. And if it works, use the tactic again as needed.

I honestly don't think you'll be able to isolate very often at any table worth playing. But even if your re-raise doesn't succeed in isolating the steal attempter, your re-raise will probably have the effect of discouraging other attempts to steal your blind.

Other places as well. Also, here is an article from cardplayer magazine that discusses this very topic.

You mentioned that you avoid the kill games in hold-em. They are different from omaha in that you have to win 2 pots in a row to become the killer. Theis can work to your adventage. Whenever you win a pot, it is a good idea to tighten up your pre-flop hand requirements on the next hand to avoid becomming the killer. this way you avoid unecessarily posting the double sized blind bet.
