Default Important Rule Questions - Please Help!!!

When the tournament reaches heads-up, I know the button is always the small blind. My question is, what do you do when a player places third and the button naturally moves to the player that is now big blind? I assume you would have to keep moving it one more space to the small blind position. Is this correct?

My 2nd question is to end a debate between a friend and I. He contends that in a no-limit tourney, you cannot ask the dealer how much is in the pot at anytime, and that you should be responsible for keeping track. As many bets are based on the size of the pot, this doesn't make sense to me. Who is correct please?

Thanks, JonnyPOW

In your first question, the button should "freeze" and not move for one hand. This will make it so the SB correctly has the button.

For the second, my understanding is that in a tournament you are always allowed to ask how much is in the pot, as well as how much any player has in front of them. This may of course change depending on the local rules of the casino.

I've never heard of anywhere that you can ask what is in the pot, besides a pot limit game.

1. Not sure if I understand your question. If there are 3 players and SB gets knocked out so the the button would move to them, the button is dead and the other 2 players take on the SB and BB roles. I think that's what you're asking.

2. You are certainly allowed to ask how much is in the pot, but the dealer won't tell you.

Unless you're in a pot-limit game. You can get a chip count from any player at any time, however.
