Default 2-4 vs 3-6 vs 5-10

Rather than hijack a thread headed in this direction, I wanted to get some opinions on the differences. It seems like there is a large leap between 2-4 and 3-6, but 3-6 plays a lot like 5-10. Anyone have experience transitioning between these limits, and advice for those (like me) attempting the same?

I hear 3/6 is tighter than 2/4.
