Default Head nod to dealer a check?

It's on you, the dealer is looking at you waiting on your action, and you nod to the dealer in a "yes" fashion while making eye contact.

Is this a real check? Most dealers in this game casually accept it, but someone decided to play an angle which ended up in bickering with arguments such as "you have to nod and point for it to be a check" and on and on.

So, whats up with this?

No dealer should ever accept that as a check unless the player is asked if they check and they nod yes.

Exactly. It doesn't take much to ask, "You check?" A nod then says "Yes".

It doesn't take much...

It also doesn't take much to use the time-honored, no-confusion, hand or finger table-tapping/knocking motion. And not much confusion is caused by actually uttering the word, "Check."

But, hey, if you're looking to improve your way-cool table image, I guess you look for something new, huh?

And making the dealer take the time to try and figure out just-what-the-hell your play is? Yeah, that's neat, too. Shows who's captaining the table.

Jeeze, Louise, gimme a break.

I don't think I like this style of checking very much either.

I agree. Often my finger gets tangled in my iPod and by nodding I can draw attention to my cool hat and sunglasses.

I usually snap my teeth together like Iceman in Top Gun to indicate a check.

I fully agree.

However, for you arguementative types, here's the alternative:

Nod, and get really pissed off when a huge ruckus ensues after you highly ambiguous maneuver backfires in a huge pot. Slow up the game by proving yourself not only an idiot, but also inconsiderate enough to intentionally use vague and unclear ettiquette, thus adding to the already unmanageable problem of WPT trained morons who insist that they're just one step away from a certain WPT victory, because they're playing 2-4 and they've seen poker on TV lots of times, therefore they KNOW how to play, and how to friggin' deal as well.

OR

You could just check like a real person instead of a moron.

The subtlety of your sarcasm is not lost, great post. You're going to be all-right. I tell you what, next time some morons tries the head-nod-check, you hold him, and I'll kick him in the nuts.
