Stealing in semi-late stages of a tournament
Hi I was in a multi-table tourney and had A4o on the button. One guy limped and all others fold. We were both on around 10k and there were around 200 left in the tournament with about 11k being the avg. I went all-in in an attempt to steal but he called with a pair of 5s and it held up. Was my play bad? Was his call good? Pls discuss.

souunds bad, what were the blinds?
stealing is generally best with no limpers.. once there are some then you need a better hand (Gap concept) |

No blinds but I did know that he bet into the board with a medium pair despite overcards.

You need to post your stack size and his stack size to discuss. Most of the time an all-in bet is a poor way to steal. [/ QUOTE ] No way, all-ins are the most effective steal, they might put you on a slightly lower quality range of hands, but whent hey have no way of making you fold, they tend to back off. |

Re: Stealing in semi-late stages of a tournament
It depends on relative stack sizes. It's in-effective if you are risking 20k to pick up 900 in chips for example.

Re: Stealing in semi-late stages of a tournament
yea, well the blinds are 800/1600 he said, and important stack sizes are ~10000.
But yes, w/ deep stacks it's not, but thats generally not the case |
