just a quick one
Party Poker, generic .50/1 ring game, this situation just came up and I'm wondering what my fellow 2+2-ers are doing in this spot: You're K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] in the SB, one EP player limps, it's folded around to you... to me this seems like a fold, as in not even worth the extra quarter to play this hand out of position against 3 players in a tiny pot. Is this a clear fold, or are some of you limping to see what the flop brings? Is anyone raising this to isolate the lone limper? Please expound.... |

Re: just a quick one
I can go any direction in this situation (complete, fold or raise) and it depends mostly on the perceived level of skill of the limper and BB. If I don't know anything about the players, my default would be to fold

Re: just a quick one
Good question.
I think whether to call or fold is probably a marginal decision. I dont think that you should be raising to isolate the early position limper though. I think that K2s is a slightly above average hand. It has 1 card of high strength but no kicker. However it does have suitedness. You are getting 5:1 to have a look at the flop if the BB does not raise. If you do pair your K, you are likely to be up against one random hand (BB) and 2 high cards or medium pair (limper). So I think you probably do have just enough value to call. |

Personally I fold this, but this is a decent analysis. I play 6-max, where the standard guidance is to play about 1/3rd to 2/5ths of your hands from the SB. Essentially, I think that Fantam's guess that K2s is a little above average is probably about right, but to me that indicates a fold. For something to be in the best third of your hands, it's got to be a little better than a little above average, so I think this is close but still a fold. |

Re: just a quick one
I call if: the SB is half the BB, the BigBlind is a passive player, and there is at least one limper.
I will fold if: the SB is less than half of the BB, or the BB is an aggressive (tricky) player, and may raise preflop, trying to win the pot. I will raise: if I know the BB and limper are WAY WAY TIGHT, and will likely fold. Even then, if they call and I hit a King, I don't think my kicker will be best the majority of the time. My standard is fold, however. |
