Default The free showdown that wasn\'t to be

Villain here is a pretty solid 25/20 over about 30 hands or so, and I haven't seen him out of line yet. Not a real good read on SB, but seemed like a typical calling station.

My turn raise was supposed to be the last bet I put in the pot, but once the board paired, I figured there was some chance, I was still ahead. OK?

Fold the river. What would a solid player lead all streets with on a jack high board? I'll give you a hint: it's a jack. Also note that if you are going to reraise the UTG+1 raiser on the button, you should be able to control him postflop.

I agree, if you 3 bet here, you gotta be able to manipulate the raiser well.

Poor place to raise for a free showdown. You have an absoluetly drawless board. He is either completely bluffing (not likely) or has a made hand. You really want to raise for a free showdown when it is likely they are on a draw and passive enough not to 3 bet (or donk the river) with most hands. Also IMO the flop is a raise or fold situation, with me raising more than folding.

I would expect him to be opening with a wide range from the CO, so dumping 77 would be really weak, I think. That's no excuse for playing bad postflop, though.
