Default isolation move

so far what I've read doesn't touch on the advantage of isolation. If UTG+1 limps and it's folded to me on the button with K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], although traditionally not a raising hand, I am correct to raise in order to eliminate the blinds and get heads-up with the limper, right? Thanks Gents

Yes in particular if UTG+1 is loose and bad.

thanks, what about the same situation with K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]J [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]? do I gain by encouraging a multi-way pot by letting the blinds in?

I wouldn't think so. Raise because you probably have the best hand. I'd say the same thing about KJo on the button as well.

"Multi-way" is going to be a *maximum* of 4 players here. I'd rather raise and try and get it heads-up so that i'm more likely to win with just a pair (or with aggression if the limper misses the flop) than hope to hit a flush draw in what will be a small pot.

The raise is right with both offsuit and suited KJ in this case. You need more limpers ahead of you to make limping the KJs the right play. The idea here is with only 3 opponents possible in the hand you don't have the implied odds to play on the draw. Especially with the offsuit cards you might need to win UI and that is much more likely against 1 opponent than it is against 4. Flopping 3 spades is about a 1% chance and you're still vulnerable against redraws if someone holds the As. Raise and hope that the blinds fold to the limper and get it HU.

In the situation you describe, I would raise KJo.

I am raising KJs on the button 100% of the time as long as there are between zero and seven limpers.
