It looks to me that villian was waiting to pop u on the turn, but was afraid to 3-bet. In general, Ace high wouldn't bet this turn and 88 probably isn't folding.

I think the raise preflop, lead flop, check-raise turn line is very often a sign of weakness to an observant player. To an unobservant one, it's very confusing and they'll probably look you up out of curiousity.
