Please List the various forms of poker ordered by popularity
Please list the various forms of poker; ordering them by their level of popularity. Are some forms of poker more popular than others in different regions of the USA?

In the East, I would then go to seven card stud; in the West, I'd go to Omaha-8, and in the South, I'd go to PLO. Anyone from Minnesota? At at least someone who can confirm/dispute what I've said? |

Re: Please List the various forms of poker ordered by popularity
Agree (at least as far as I know) about regional preferences AFTER hold 'em.
As far as NLHE vs limit HE popularity, however, I'm not so sure. Certainly LHE is more COMMON....every cardroom has limit tables continuously, but not many rooms are able to sustain a continuous NLHE cash game. Those that ARE able to keep a table or two of NLHE going are the biggest, and they'll have FAR more tables of LHE going at same time. Of course, NLHE tournaments are very popular...but I suspect that there are many more players whose main game is LHE and ALSO play tournaments, than there are players who play NLHE tournaments or cash games exclusively without playing LHE at all. Some of this may be artificially shaped by various state gaming commission regulations (I know that's the case here in WA)...but I have to think that if NLHE were REALLY THAT much more popular than limit, then the gaming industry (including their governmental watchdogs) would adjust to that, and there would be more NLHE available than there is. |

[/ QUOTE ] I've never seen it outside of online sites, and I've played in roughly 30 or so US cardrooms. I'm virtually certain that seven-card stud is more popular in the US, and probably in the world. |

Re: Please List the various forms of poker ordered by popularity
Greed! HAHAA. Forgive me if I'm writing strangely as I've been taking cold medication all day and don't feel quite sound in the think-box. If I'm not mistaken (and I was mistaken a few years ago but it was only a trivial matter) casinos began spreading LHE games, especially at the lower limits, because it generates a higher rake. NLHE the 3$ max rake may only make it their over a few hands per hour because big hands don't come up enough with people slinging chips into the pot enough to cap the rake. In no fold'em hold'em the rake could max out on nearly every hand with mulitple people raising and hanging around to the river.
