Superman owns Batman in every respect. It's not close.

I suspect you'll get mostly Batman for a response -

aside from the fact that big Superman is just a wussy boyscout emotionally, the fact that ANYONE with enough time/talent could CONCEIVEABLY be Batman appeals to the hero in everyone -

if I could train hard enough and have enough money, I could be Batman - so that's that -

The thing is this...

Superman - nice guy and all that - is impervious to hurt/pain without some sort of superweapon/stuff - he can fly, superstrong etc etc. While he does good deeds, there's no real effort of emotion there. You also get the sense he wants to be loved by all.

Batman - here's a man who had things happen to him that would make many curl up and want to die, but he didn't. His willpower drove him to be better, stronger, smarter. He made himself, he didn't just land somewhere already made. He despises wrongdoers at every level, and apart from his cardinal rule of no guns, he will get his hands dirty to get the job done. He takes wounds, he faces danger, and he cares nothing about credit, love or admiration for it. Anyone gets hurt on his watch, he'll never forget it.


So, which one's the true hero?
