Floating DERB

DERB raises from the hijack and im on button w/ Ah4h.

i cold call, blinds are (16/11/1.4) and (22/12/1.2) and they both fold HU.

flop is QxQs8s. DERB bets i call planning on raising the turn.

turn is a blank, like a 3 or something and DERB checks. i bet DERB calls.

river is another blankish card we both check.

Sometimes call the flop, sometimes raise the flop.

I odn't mind your float and I think 3 betting 80% and calling 20% with that hand is about the right amount.

I agree with James and BK that if we go to showdown, we should do it cheaply. But can someone explain to me why a preflop 3 bet is out of the question?

With tight blinds, i would think we might fold out hands like A-5 to A-T, KJ, KQ, etc... which we really don't want to be up against. We have a better chance of getting heads up and having some dead money in the pot. If you three bet, you don't have to play postflop much differently, just try to get to showdown cheaply unless we hit the flop big.

I think you played it perfectly, but I wouldn't have liked the turn raise for the reason james stated

From what I understand DERB is VPIP 30% yes?

If so, fold preflop. I don't think that VPIP is sufficiently out of line to justify playing A4s in that spot.

If you feel you must play it, 3 bet preflop to knock out the blinds.

I think cold calling a loan preflop raiser is just plain bad play. You are giving odds to the blinds to call with all sorts of hands you'd rather get rid of.

You want to be heads up with position, not caught in the middle when the preflop raiser bets.

Glad to know that some people agree with my 3 bet line. I'm still curious as to why James, BK, and Barron didn't like this, i'm sure it's not a coincidence. Maybe they can enlighten me.
