Is it a crime to fold preflop here?

My opponent is a LAG so I feel my implied odds are pretty shitty.

I guess my best option is to fold an unfavorable flop - like the KQJ that came in this hand - and call down favorable flops where my opponent is less likly to have hit. Thinking about it some more I guess the preflop call has to be profitable agaisnt the unsophisticated LAG I was up against.

If the LAG bluffs alot but also knows to give up after the flop when we call sometimes, is 22 profitable then?

You're about 50/50 or worse against almost all of villians hands (unless he has a 2, but that's unlikely since he raised under the gun). Your hand is very hard to play if you don't hit a set on the flop because you're out of position against a loose aggressive opponent who's not going to be making it clear whether or not he has you beat. With one other person you can call because you're getting good enough odds to hit your set but heads up I think this is an easy fold.

i think the opposite

its not an easy hand to play heads up out of position but i call every time and sometimes i 3 bet - if playing this hand is too scary for you then dont play it

You can probably get close to set value out of his laginess, and if the board comes 589.... just check call through the river.

Interesting. I don't think I thought it through enough.


By checking and calling he will give up on the river most of the time. Let's say he bluffs the river 20% of the time he bets.

I win: 1 SB (flop) + 2 SB (turn) + 0.4 SB (river)
I lose: 1 SB + 2 SB + 1.6 SB
SUM = -1.2 SB

So I figured post flop I'd lose money.


But of course I have two more aces in my sleve.
*When I make a set I will win more
*I can choose to fold the most dangerous flops (those where I am less than a 5:7 = 40% favorite)

Maybe these two factors make up for the loss I would "otherwise" have had post flop? (Anyway -1.2 SB is less than 3 SB I would give up by folding preflop)


Am I missing something?
Is there anything wrong in my resoning?


EDIT: The 1.x SB I figured I'd lose post flop is why I wrote my implied odds were bad. I don't know if this is a misuse of the term.

But they are worse than against a TAG (who doesn't have too tight a range of preflop raising hands)?

Against a TAG I could take the lead on a dry flop by c/r and comfortably fold to further agression from his side.

I also have a better idea of what cards he can have in his hand so I will be a heavier favorite on low flops (while I will be a heavier dog on high flops where I can fold).

unfortunately its rare in this spot but if i have seen you raise pre-flop and play weakly post flop i wheel it out - other times its because i have a determination to look like a chip spewing fool

If he hits anything you lose. Combine his chances of hitting with his chances of bluffing you out -&gt; You are likely not going to win. Don't forget that since you have the bottomest pair, he could bluff you out with anything and everything. And if he isnt bluffing, you will be paying off a lot to find out when it really isnt worth it.
