Re: care to help out?
PF: Fold. 89s is good on the button with a bunch of limpers. Here it's dangerous since you can so easily get raised, or have everyone fold behind you and wreck your odds.
Flop: This is potentially the costliest flop you could see, you prefer a strait or flush draw. TPNK on this board isn't very strong. A reasonable bet on the end. Turn: The J is an overcard which isn't nice. An A or K would be a lot more worrysome. I take the free card here. River: A reasonably safe card with no agression. I would take the free showdown. If you had checked the turn and gotten bet at on the river you could fold without much regret I think. Overall, against one caller, I would think you were good. Against 2 this may very well be spewing chips. -D |

Re: care to help out?
Preflop: id fold this preflop (but then again i play way too tight)
Flop: i hate this spot, but i raise as well. Turn: the J doesnt look nice, but then again there arent alot of turn cards that would look nice anyways. Id want to bet here, since the river will probably just make the hand look worse. But in the end id play scared and check behind here. River: id check or call a single bet |

Re: care to help out?
There is already too much talk about folding preflop in this thread.

[/ QUOTE ] yep 98s is a good hand, there are 2limpers, I'd fold if its always being raised behind me, otherwise get in there and play I check the river, its doubtful they call with something you beat, though I've seen some horrid rivercalls |

Re: care to help out?
Yes i should have mentioned this in the post. If it was raised pre flop or had reason to think it would be raised behind me, I would fold. UTG and UTG+1 have been raising every other hand. rest of the table had been pretty quiet, so I figured I had a good chance to get in with one bet.

Re: care to help out?
I like the preflop call on a ttable where a lot of players are seeing the flop. 98s is one of my favorite hands though.
I'm going to go out on a limb (and probably the only one) and say that with SB betting out into 7 players with this board--and since we have no straight or flush draws--in the long run folding the flop is the best option. I know that seems stupid but 98 is a REAL money burner when we flop top pair in a crowd with no draws for us. SB betting out is just icing on the cake. If you guys don't believe me then look up your stats for 98o (that's what we have here now) and tell me if you're making any money with it. It and 87o are a couple of my worst hands. It's great when you hit a straight but top pair loses all the money back. So.....am I out here on this limb all by myself? (like usual) Or does anyone want to crawl out here with me? |

Re: care to help out?
Preflop is fine. 98s plays well in multiway pots, and unless it is always raised behind you (unlikely at at .5/1 game) then folding it in MP sacrifices value.
On the flop raising > calling > folding. The pot is getting large, you have top pair, and you can force two players to look at two cold. Betting the turn is fine as you probably have the best hand. Betting the river requires some reads. Do your opponents call down with busted draws and ace high? If so, go ahead and bet. If not, I don't see much that you beat that pays you off here (maybe something like 8-5 from the BB). |

in the long run folding the flop is the best option. [/ QUOTE ] I don't like folding this flop. You're getting 9:1 to call and I don't see a reason to think that all your trips/2-pair outs aren't good, so you should at least draw to 'em. I think OP played this hand fine. The turn and river are some aggressive bets, but no one's given him a reason not to think he's got the best hand here. |

[/ QUOTE ] i agree. we raise the flop to knock out MP3 and CO, which most likely have overs to our 8. Since the turn is checked to us, we bet. I also bet the river. In fact, I play this the same way- pf and all. |
