20/40 Laydown AKs preflop?
Posted on another forum by a player whose insights I normally really respect. This player and many others advocate laying down AKs preflop.
"20/40 10 handed game I get AcKc UTG and raise. Guy to my left has 5% VPIP 3% PFR after 300 hands with him 3-bets, next player (probably unaware with 40% VPIP and 20% PFR%) capps. Folded back to you. Do you call or fold?" With the high current and implied pot odds, I just think this is way too weak tight. Comments? |

Re: 20/40 Laydown AKs preflop?
300 hands is way too small of a sample to be making this fold.

I think any sample size is way to small to make this fold.
I would never fold here. This hand should easy to get away from post flop with Tighty McWhitey to your left. Nigel |

Ridiculous fold. Even a 3-percenter is raising JJ. See a flop.

Since it doesn't sound like anyone is gonna lay this down, how about AKo instead?

Re: 20/40 Laydown AKs preflop?
do not fold AK or AKs in this spot getting about 2:1 effective odds.
plus the 5/3 guy didn't cap. the 40/20 guy did... now if you had TWO 5/3 guys behind you and 13bet and the other capped, and argument MAY be made for folding AKo, but id still call with AKs, that roughly 10% advantage that suitedness brings makes a difference. on sample size. 300hands is PLENTY for vpip and pfr to converge. -Barron |

Although, if you got 2 5/3's they are probably the same guy and tag teaming you. Which reminds me, I played in a 30/60 with 2 mega-passive fish that were clearly the same peron. Exact same stats over a large sample, almost never in a hand together despite very high VPIP's, same types of username/number combo w/ both in all caps w/ the city in all caps, both appearing right next to eachother on the Party buddy list. I figured it was still very +EV having them in the game though and decided not to fire off an email to Party. I hope my thinking on that is correct. Nigel |

Re: 20/40 Laydown AKs preflop?
I'd insta-muck AK off here, but i would play AKs for the reasons that Barron has already elaborated on. Don't forgot about reverse implied odds here, it's hard to fold if you pair up on the flop, but AA, KK will be out there quite a bit here. You'll also have odds to peel for 1 bet assuming you against QQ and JJ, but you could be stone cold dead to runners after the flop for all you know.

What do you mean by suitedness adds 10%?

I think he meant 5%.
