check raise with mid pair on the flop?
i have been using this move on occassion with some success. the pressure is put back on the inital bettor and you can find out if ur mid pair is good. also if your drawing it usually let's you see a free river.

Re: check raise with mid pair on the flop?
I like the play is many circumstances if I'm playing 6-max games. If you have some extra outs (gutshot draws, overcard, etc.), it could come in handy if you need a free card on the turn....
d'oh Nevermind. I just realized you're acting before the original bettor. It's going to depend on the read of your opponent. What are you going to do on the turn now? |

Re: check raise with mid pair on the flop?
You specifically mention middle pair. I would think the one time you'd want to make this play is when you're UTG with a player in between you and the effective button.
It is checked to the button who might bet with anything here because he senses weakness. You're CR should knock out the middle guy. What you do on 4th St. depends on the card, of course, but you got what you wanted, heads-up with the original bettor if he indeed calls. Use with caution. Onaflag......... |

I'd be careful in doing this against EP or MP flop bettors who are betting into a field.
