The 3-flush straight game
This was my first orbit at the table, but the villain seemed to be rather loose and aggro preflop yet passive postflop, something I'm starting to see a lot of at Stars .50/1 for whatever reason.
PokerStars 0.50/1.00 Hold'em (10 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is MP1 with J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. MP2 posts a blind of $0.50. CO posts a blind of $0.50. 3 folds, Hero raises, 1 fold, MP3 calls, 4 folds. Flop: (7.50 SB) K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets, MP3 calls. Turn: (4.75 BB) 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero checks, MP3 checks. River: (4.75 BB) T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero... Final Pot: 5.75 BB Ten...Jack..Queen...where's the--oh yeah, King...hey I have a straight! Shame about the 3-flush board though. I'm not hugely scared of the flush since it's just one opponent, but if he doesn't have it he might fold to a bet, and it'd really hurt if he was slowplaying a flush and raised me here. Should I go ahead and bet out or check to possibly induce a bluff? While we're at it, should I have bet that flop? I'm finding my tendency to bet out if I raise preflop no matter the circumstance really hard to resist, and this doesn't seem like the greatest spot to do it in. |

Meh...despite your read, I'm loathe to make a decision here without stats. Think I'd have to bet if he's pretty passive.

Not betting the river would be like driving in the desert without water in your tires.
He's not going to play a flush like that. Bet. |

Re: The 3-flush straight game
I like the flop bet. I've started betting in situations like this where I raised PF, the field is small, and I have a reasonable number of outs. (Maybe 5 or so here, if we don't already have the best hand.)
You have to bet the river. (Even though I've read the thread and villain folded.) You'd hate to have it checked through. |
