Default Rebuy tourneys and expected value.

The question is: is it +ev to rebuy an unlimited rebuy tourneys?

Ie.

You've got $50 and you got 2 options:
a) you play a $25 rebuy tourney and rebuy once.
b) you play in 2 seperate 25$ rebuy tourneys but do not rebuy.

Which is +ev?

I don't know if this is the answer you are looking for, but if I had only $50, then both of these options are -ev. But between the 2 choices, option a is better. You'll need to rebuy at least once in a rebuy tournament...there are too many variables.

I think it kinda depends on your situation at the first break. People are often crazy in these things that they're very happy to double you up, and placing in the money gives you 3 or 4 buy ins sometimes. So basically, hopefully the idea is you shouldn't need to rebuy, or even add on.

But I don't have a ton of experiance in rebuys.

ok. any of the experienced MTT'ers wanna add something?

To me it seems rebuying is a waste of money because the first 1K chips you get is more than the second 1K chips you rebuy...

I posted awhile back a mathematical analysis of when to rebuy... in general, if you expect an ROI of only about 30% (and my ROI on multi-table tourneys is about 100%) then you should always rebuy immediately and always addon. In general, since people don't always rebuy and addon, your expected return will be higher than it would be on the non-rebuy tournament.

If you play 2 tourneys, you have to play the rake twice. So that much is easy.

As to the overall question, I think you overestimate how much the 2nd 1000 chips is worth more than the 1st 1000 chips. In any decent-sized tournament, they are going to be worth the same. If you're playing a 20-person tournament where it takes you from 5% of the chips in play to ~10%... well, maybe not then. But certainly, for any large tournament, it makes next to no difference.

If it's +EV for you to be in the tournament in the first place, it will always be +EV for you to rebuy and addon. The only exception, noted by some poker author I can't name, is that if you're near the end of the rebuy period and everyone at your table has a big stack, it may not be worth it for you to buy back in just to get pushed around. But under normal conditions, always take the rebuys and addons.

If you only have 50 play 8 $5 tourneys and try to get more money and play in 2 rebuys
