10-20 NL: Awkward spot w/ JJ
10-20 NL. Full ring.
I (~$4,900) raise to $70 UTG+1 w/ J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. MP (~$1,100) calls, LP ($675) calls, Button (~$2k) calls. MP seems okay, nothing special, maybe calls too much. LP is unknown. Button is a bad LAG--bluffs too much, calls w/ improper odds, etc. My image is reasonable and I've been showing down lots of winners, although the button knows that I'm capable of being pretty out there sometimes (). ($310) Flop is 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. I bet $299, MP calls, LP folds, button calls. ($1,207) Turn is the 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. Hero? I think this might be routine but I just wanted to check in. Thanks. |

Re: 10-20 NL: Awkward spot w/ JJ
I think you have to bet at least $1,000 here. $1,200 is probably better since if MP calls his final $730 the button will be getting pretty good implied odds in a situation where you almost have to pay off on the river no matter what comes. You don't have nearly enough information about opponents hands to conclude you are likely behind and a free card would be very bad here as almost no card in the deck is safe. If called by the button, you have to push the river no matter what falls, or check if you think button will bluff with more hands than he will call with.

Re: 10-20 NL: Awkward spot w/ JJ
I'd stay the aggressor and bet the pot. If the MP player wants to continue he'll have to commit all his / her bucks and pay the fullest. The button will have a hard decision too whether to continue, but if he pushes in IMO you'll have to call.

Would would pushing accomplish that betting 1200 wouldn't (not questioning your advice...still learning NL)?

Re: 10-20 NL: Awkward spot w/ JJ
So basically you guys are saying if you have an overpair on a semi-non-scary board and you're beat, you're going to get stacked with 100BB? I don't understand. If one of them flopped two pair or a set, they just sit there and call your all-in?

If villain is a bad LAG, I might let him take the lead here, check/raise allin. But that's only if I'm pretty sure he'll bet.

Bad players and LAGs love to "pick off your bluff with missed AK". |
