Won a satelite, Can't take the registration money???

I played a 10$ satelite on CDPoker and won a seat into the 10k guarantee, a 105$ buyin. I am not going to be able to play this so I tried to take the money instead. They wouldn't allow me to do this. Does it work like this at all sites? Is this fair? Do I have reason to fight with them?
100$ is something I don't really want to flush down the toilet!

If you couldn't play in the $10K tournament, why did you sign up for this satellite? It seems perfectly fair to me. If something came up abruptly, I'd e-mail them and see how far that goes, but I don't see why this is a refundable situation.

Most sites don't allow you to take the money. Stars allows you to unregister for T$. PokerRoom, ParadisePoker, and others force you to use it for that specific event,

You won't be able to get the money I don't think.

But if you contact support you might be able to get them to rollover your entry into the next 10K guaranteed.
