Default Badly played?

Villain is unknown

Party Poker 10/20 Hold'em (6 max, 5 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is BB with 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. MP posts a blind of $10.
UTG calls, MP (poster) checks, 2 folds, Hero checks.

Flop: (3.50 SB) K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)
Hero checks, UTG bets, MP folds, Hero raises, UTG calls.

I c/r because I figured there was a good chance Villain had
*a straight draw
*a flush draw
*a worsw pair
Was the possibility of that to small for a pot of this meager size?

Turn: (3.75 BB) J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets, UTG calls.

River: (5.75 BB) 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, UTG bets, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 7.75 BB

I would usually just bet out on a flop like this. I don't really see the need to check-raise in such a small pot with a marginal holding.

Rest of the hand seems fine although the turn and river aren't exactly lovely cards for you.

My thinking is that
+I don't need to invest money when it goes "bet + call/raise".
+The risk of a bluff-raise with a draw on the turn or river goes down.
+I get a bet/fold from people trying to bluff on the K-rag-rag flop.

A flop bet might be better though. I don't know.

Is your plan to fold to any raise anywhere in the hand?

Your reasons to check-raise all make sense. I guess I just hate ending up at the turn out of position not really knowing where I am in the hand and being susceptible to being raised out of it due to my marginal holding.

If he had raised the turn, I would chuck it.

Check-raising here just sucks you in. It makes it very hard for you to get away from the hand sensibly later.

Bet the flop and hope to pick up the pot right there. Makes everything easier.

More discussion here please. I haven't convinced myself that c/r is the best play Niether have I been convinced that it is betting out

I would never ch/r in this situation. I would bet the flop and bet again on the turn if I get a caller. Fold to a raise on the turn or call a flop raise and fold UI on the turn. However, I don't know if that line is better than your line.´

I guess your line is better if the last guy would always try to steal the pot if checked to him. But I really don't want to se the flop checked through.

You have a good, but very vulnerable hand. It would suck to give a free card to any overcards, backdoor straights, or backdoor flushes. When you go for the check-raise this becomes a very real possiblity.
