small pp, not sure if this is standard...
...but I've been doing this a lot.
Live $5/$10 at the Taj, we're 7-handed at this point. Villain is loose (probably vpip in the 40s), moderately aggressive. My table image is tight. Hero is BB with 4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. Two folds, Villain raises, three folds, Hero calls Flop: T [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Hero checks, Villain bets, Hero raises, Villain calls Turn: 3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Hero bets... fine? |

There are a bunch of ways to do this. You could alternatively 3-bet pre-flop and lead any flop. Your line works too.

Re: small pp, not sure if this is standard...
Looks very nice to me.
The key to this type of play is having a good handle on your opponent and having good skills for reading board textures. If your opponent is pretty rocky, this play may not be the best idea, as your opponent may actually have a hand because he bet the flop. Driving through with this sort of hand and getting shown K10 by a notably weak player is not good. Be careful against a particularly aggro. player, because he may raise on draws overcards and stuff, so you have to be confident in when you can lay the hand down. And so on. It's also important not to do it on draw heavy boards, because you are more likely to get played with and basically the whole point of this play is that you want to encourage your opponent to make the mistake of folding live overcards which they would continue to play with had they known your hand (Fundamental Theorem, baby...) |

Re: small pp, not sure if this is standard...
Notice that getting 7-1 on 6 outs (which are all pretty clean), we are very slightly positive EV. (If all your outs are clean, this call will be 7% profitable).
It will be important to weigh the chances your opponent could be bluffing. Against standard opponents, calling the turn and folding the river unimproved is probably best, but if you feel the chance of snapping off a bluff is high enough you might consider calling the river against certain opponents. |

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, when I have position I usually 3-bet pre-flop and auto-bet when checked too. Thanks for pointing out that I can 3-bet from BB too; for some reason it just felt a little foreign even though it's not that different |

[/ QUOTE ] With the player read you gave I making a crying call on the river UI if there is any chance he is capable of playing overcards that way. |
