Hey!
I just started out with playing Shorthanded NL50 tables (5 max). The first days it went really well and I made a lot of money. However with my aggressive style the bad beats really do sting a lot. But I don't really know what kind of numbers to expect on this level? Is it horrible to lose $200 in a week of play? Should I be sceptic about my play if I lose 2 buy-ins in one day? Personally I think my play is good, but my bad beats usually cost me tons of money (for me) and if I have a few of them bad beats in a day the winnings start to decline pretty dang quickly. So my main questions: * Should I be alarmed about losing say, $200 in a week? * How long can a regular losing streak last without it alarming you? With losing streak I mean a period of time you can't show positive results at the end of the day. Thank you in advance for any help |

you shouldn't be alarmed but you should go over your hands.

200 in a week... nothing.
If your not sure about whats badluck and what isn't, the best solution is simply to post hands your not sure about where you got stacked, or where you think you didn't extract enough value etc. |

Seeing over my hands i've lost the most with it's been:
* AA vs Q7 in an all-in situation where Q7 hit a full house * 55 on a KK5 where after an all-in my opponent gets a higher full house on the river. * AT on a T9A flop where my opp decides his 96 is good and we get all in with the turn showing a 9. * KK vs AJ all-in preflop where the A hits on turn. * QQ vs AA. Not much to say... Looks like bad beats to me, so maybe I shouldn't worry yet :/ |

Should I be alarmed about losing say, $200 in a week? [/ QUOTE ] This should be no more than 20% of your bankroll for .25/50 blinds. I don't think its too much to worry about especially you can attribute it to bad luck. Over the course of a single 4-table session I can easily be down 4 buy-ins and still keep hope alive for having a very good session. [ QUOTE ] How long can a regular losing streak last without it alarming you? With losing streak I mean a period of time you can't show positive results at the end of the day. [/ QUOTE ] If I lose 3-days (that would be 5000 or so hands) in a row I would have to look at my play. One of the secrets to being a good shorthanded player IMO is being able to deal with the increased risk and exploit the fact that others can't. Keeping a large bank roll allows you to play aggresive and absorb swings without worrying about going broke. Passion |

Oh wow ok I don't get near 5000 hands in 3 days since I only 2-table at most
Maybe 1000-1500 is more like it perhaps. |

Streaks like this are going to happen, unfortunately. It sounds like from your post that you're simply running bad. Take a little time off and then keep plugging away, and move down if you've overextended your bankroll.

You can lose $200 in a day easily. Just four hands, you can lose $200. You need proper bankroll to play at the right level. If $200 is too much for you, drop down from NL50.
Losing $200 a week due to badluck is normal. |

Does that even really qualify as a downswing? Looks more like a normal fluctuation of the game to me. I've dropped more than that at one table in an hour(tilt), hope that puts things in perspective.
