You would check raise? I thought a lead-3bet would do the trick, could you elaborate?

Any hand that is likely to raise your flop bet (and quite easily force out other callers) is likely to 3-bet your flop c/r, but with the flop c/r you allow your other opponents (the ones you want calling) to call a single bet at least once (and possibly twice). It's a really easy checkraise.
