1/2$ low set - how did I play this?
Full ring. Just sat down - no read. Im in small blind with 55. UTG+1 raises to 8$. 3 callers. I call. We all have ~200$.
Flop is KT2 rainbow. All check. Turn is 5c and theres now 2 clubs on the board. UTG+1 bets 30$. Folded to me, I push. Comments please? |

Re: 1/2$ low set - how did I play this?
I think you lose value vs. a weird played AK/AA/Kx. Make it $90 instead. FWIW, a UTG-raise followed by a check is often a monster, so don't be surprised to see KK here a good percentage of the time. Anyway, I raise this to $90 and I'm happy to get it all in here.

Re: 1/2$ low set - how did I play this?
I think if you get called, you lose. If I were villain I would lay down AK/AA here pretty quick. Only a flush or bigger set can call, IMHO.
EDIT: Ohhhh, now there are TWO clubs on board, ignore me, nh. Still, watch out for KK. |

Re: 1/2$ low set - how did I play this?
I've got to agree with Kongo here that it very well could be trouble (as is often the case with turned sets), but there's no possible way you're getting away from this hand.
Before I read his response, I was also thinking I would raise to $90, though the more I think about it, pushing isn't bad because it makes it seem more like a bluff. Nevertheless a bare king would have a very tough time calling a push here, unless you have a read that says otherwise. Ryan |

Re: 1/2$ low set - how did I play this?
Good posts. I did fear the KK, but there were also a lot of draws so I might get a call from a weird played AA or AK. If i raised to 90, I thought it would scream a set, and maybe let him get away. If i raised 90, and he pushed - I guess I would have to call him.
Anyway he had KK, and I hated my play - Thats what he played it like, and thats what i thought he had. Folding is too tight... Can anyone see reraising, fold to a push?? |

Re: 1/2$ low set - how did I play this?
that would be a very disciplined fold. its a standard line from a typical predictable player to raise PF w/ AA-KK, flop a set, check flop and then lead the turn. hes definetly defined his hand as a set. still, its hard to release a set for just 150 more bucks....

Re: 1/2$ low set - how did I play this?
So I guess its a matter of extracting the most from the (unlikely) hands that I beat, and just lose my stack to set over set here, even though it is very likely he has KK.
Maybe call, call would be a better line? |

Re: 1/2$ low set - how did I play this?
i dont mind your line at all. a re-raise to $90 is fine and i think it could possibly get called by hands u beat, but a push doesnt suck at all u just have to think if villain will call with anything u beat. and the idea to call call come on man thats results oriented thinking, u must raise here to atleast 90 and if u r the poker gangster u will fold to his push but i wouldnt at this level.
