My first post - thanks to everyone for all your valuable information, this place is priceless. I've been playing for about a month - still a lot to learn!
In a STT, I'm dealt K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] on the button. It's folded around to me, and I put about a 4XBB out there. SB calls and BB folds. Stacks are close for me and the SB. Flop comes 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. SB bets about 3/4 of his stack, and I folded. Did I do the right thing? I was kinda mad at myself after-the-fact, but I saw the straight-flush possibilities out there, so I ducked out. |

I would push here, but I think it's close.
It looks to me like he has a pair, possibly top pair here and is trying to protect it from a) what he likely thinks are your overs and b) another spade falling. The only problem is if he has two pair or a set or something. Either way it looks like he is protecting against the spade rather than drawing for it. Which it seems like puts you in a good position. I'm unsure. But I think it would be a scared push from me. I'm interested to see what others say. |

Hmmm...I'm afraid of a) a flush and b) a straight c) some two pair (grr...why did he call PF?) and d) a set. Now, you didn't make it clear exactly where the stacks are at, but assuming they're pretty even, few people flop a monster hand and bet off basically all their chips: they want you to play.
So I'm more worried about him having a draw, but here, you're ahead of draws. So his bet looks like an "I have top pair and am scared sh*tless of all that black" bet, or an "I have the nut flush draw and am scared sh*tless of you betting and me having to fold." His bet feels like he wants to win the pot now and he wants you to leave, most hands that bet like that are behind you. He probably thinks you have AK or something, maybe with scary suits. Hence, I dissapoint him; I push back. All my chips go in. He shows me Asxs or KQs on a bad day (maybe a wierd straight), I move on. The buy-in also affects this. If this is an $11 or a $6, your opponents are getting cute with a wide enough range of hands here that it's a clear call. |

Thanks much, folks. If it's any help, this was pretty early in a $5+$.50 SNG on UB. Stacks were roughly T1700 each.
