Default Pairs...

So why are there so many things that are pairs? A pair of scissors? If you take out the little screw lose half do you have a scissor? Pants? Why is that a pair? It has two legs, but shirts have two arms. You don't say a pair of shirts. If i rip them in half do I have a pant? If you leave out the "pair of" you still refer to them in the plural form. It's dumb. I'm sure there are more of these stupid pair things.

I had some very weird dreams last night.

pair
2. One object composed of two joined, similar parts that are dependent upon each other: a pair of pliers.

p.s. why is an apple called an "apple" ?

I guess I should have looked there. It's still extraneous. And it doesn't really explain why we wear pairs of pants, but not pairs of shirts.
