Always play A2?
Hi, I'm new here and i am also new to Omaha 8b. I have read some articles and most of them say to always play an Ace 2. Is this always correct? If you are dealt A [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] in early position is it still profitable to play this?

Re: Always play A2?
Depends.
On a loose/passive table, where an ep limp has a good shot at not being raised, I'll play it. With any strong and/or aggressive players behind me, I'll lean towards the muck. If I'm playing well and have a tight image, I may play it hoping to get the chance to show down a loose call, lightening the image... |

Re: Always play A2?
A2 is great when it's the only A2 out, but much worse if there are likely others (i.e. tight limpers) and you have nothing else of value in your hand. You can fold a hand like A297r with tight players in the pot and play against loose players. From EP you have to guess, but folding isn't far wrong. You want high potential or backup low cards against tight players, and preferably both.

Re: Always play A2?
I feel you see the flop with this every time.
If the flop doesn't match up with you, don't be afraid to throw it away quickly. Dave |

Re: Always play A2?
I rarley fold it preflop, only when there are a lot of other tight players in the pot. Even then, Id still be tempted to call.

in a ring game, i would almsost always play any A 2, In a tourney, it is often correct to throw that hand away.

Re: Always play A2?
It depends a lot on the limit and structure. If you're talking PLO8, which I don't play, I assume you'd call very often. In low-limit games it's pretty standard to play any A2 because opponents will chase weaker low draws and make all kinds of postflop errors. In tight/aggro games from EP, I think some A2 hands should be mucked, including OP's
