Basic MTT Strategy

(Tried searching first, but found nothing relevent)

Hey all,

I am a NL cash game player, and my girlfriend has started playing large (300-500 player) MTT's while I grind away on the ring games. She used to play ring games as well, and I am afraid this has poorly affected her tournament play.

I was wondering if anyone could point me to a thread or webpage that could give some basic advice for playing MTT's. Specifically, how to play for a high finish as opposed to playing conservatively to just sqeak into the money (which is what the ring-game mentality seems to create).

Here's what you do...

1) Drive to your local book store, purchase Harrington on Hold'Em Volume 1 and 2 ($25 each)

2) Drive to your local grocery store purchase Flowers, a Gift Bag, and profilactics for roughly $25.

3) Make your girlfriend dinner, giver her the flowers plus the books (that you can use as well), consumate, and have a nice day.

Trip to the Bookstore...$50
Trip to the Grocery Store ... $25
Getting laid AND picking up two of the best NL tourney books ... priceless.

I have HOH1. Are these two volumes considered the best books concerning the subject right now?

Yes. I found Harrington 1 to be somewhat basic tournament overview. HoH2 was the juice of the two.

Unfortunately for you, this is not a question that can be answered in one post...whereas if you wanted to learn SNG's we could sum it up in three lines if we oversimplified.

TPFAP and HoH's are the best place to start...there are also a ton of MTT freerolls on all the major poker sites and a ton on the little sites that actually have decent overlay.

Practice your arse off, post hands here and read. Repeat. Repeat. Then win your first MTT and the rest will be history.

Also watching the WPT for poker value is -EV.
