Default 2004 World Series for the 1 Millionth Time on ESPN...A hand w/ Murphy.

Just watching last years WSOP for the bajillionth time on ESPN... I'm sure this was discussed last year, but why did John Murphy go all-in first to act with that full house, dueces full of queens? Doesn't that situation warrant some sort of a trap bet on the river, hoping Arieh goes over the top, or at least calls? So many different ways to get something out of Arieh, instead gets nada... Sometimes the thought process of the internet player is warped...

the way i saw it... he was convinced josh made his flush and wanted to overbet in the hopes josh would call with his flush. Guess he underestimated josh's ability to make a good lay down. If he checks there.. whose to say josh isnt smart enough to check behind him after the board pairs.

exactly... if murphy did check, and josh did bet, it's basically a - EV play. with a possible flush, murphy likely only calls (or raises) when josh is beat

I thought his play was highly questionable. The only thing I can think of is that he thought his all-in would like a bluff. But any hand that would call a huge bluff liek that would also bet behind him, so I dunno

Exactly, I thought the play was retarded... if he was convinced he made his flush why not check it, or throw out a small bet that looks like a blocking bet that arieh can come over the top of??

Pushing like that works at 50 NL and 10+1s, but I think a good player at the WSOP knows better than to risk 10k+ on a fishy move like that

something im wondering though is what's with matt dean over playing JJ so much. He seems VERY trusting and willing to put in alot of chips with this hand. Guess its hard to judge though without knowing reads and chip counts since the two players he called against it with were very aggressive.

Weren't both those calls race situations? JJ is the FOURTH best hand to go to a race with.

Well if you listen to Josh nobody has any business calling him with anything but aces or kings even though he's raising 3 times per orbit

Most people are far too hard on Murphy for this hand. I think well over 90% of players would have called an all-in bet with a King-high flush.

It wasn't a mistake by Murphy. It was a great fold by Arieh.
