Dealing with Question: What do you do for a living?
How do you respond to the question of what you do for a living, while at the poker table?
Obviously you can't say you're a pro. I'd prefer not to lie, either. Currently, I state that I'm "between jobs", but that sounds a little phony... |

Currently, I state that I'm "between jobs", but that sounds a little phony... [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I know... Now that you replied I can't delete it, though, so I notified the moderator of my own post. However, mine was titled better, as I thought his would be more about the ego of wanting to have a "professional poker player" image or something. --Dave. |

1) Question is asked by a hot girl:
"Investment banking. I'm semi retired and helping a friend launch a new record label." 2) Question asked by a wrinkled poker ho: "I'm a male nurse. I work in the STD ward." 3) Question asked by a guy: "I'm just out of the big house. I'm looking. You got something?" |

just say you're a student, "what are you taking?" "ah, a little of this, a little of that." or say something vague like, "i'm taking a business program" or blah blah. if you feel the need to lie about your profession, keep it vague. remember, god hates liars.

"what are you taking?" [/ QUOTE ] "Must be Astronomy, because my professors always tell me I'm taking up space." Actually making a (harmless) joke out of whatever they ask is a good friendly way of avoiding questions like this. |

why lie. tell the truth, if your ashamed of your porfesion dont do it. [/ QUOTE ] Well, you just run the risk of intimidating your opponents. Certainly, while there are pros to that, some players might want to switch to an "easier" table. |

[ QUOTE ]
why lie. tell the truth, if your ashamed of your porfesion dont do it. [/ QUOTE ] It's not a matter of being ashamed of it, but more a matter of not scaring away the fish. It's the same way you don't act like a statue and bring a hat and sunglasses to a table full of tourists. It's -EV. |
