When do you place your bets?

I'm still new to this whole thing, and I was wondering if those of you who bet MLB have a routine? When do the lines get published, and do you jump on them right away, or do you wait until it's moved a little before placing a bet? Do you do research at a given time and then make your bets, or is it kind of by gut instinct given what you've studied over the year?

What about when NFL season comes around? Do you mainly place bets early, or wait until there's more injury information during the week?
