Default .50/1.00 Party Poker - is it unbeatable?

Hi, a bit of a newb, so if this topic has been covered to death my apologies.

Sklansky in TOP says, "Whatever your style of play, you should avoid a game where the ante is simply enormous in relation to the betting limits."

With a .25 ante and a big bet of $1, does .5/1 Party Poker stud qualify as a bad game, even considering the bad players?

Yes, its beatable.. Just play a little more passively with marginal hands. Don't be afraid to be somewhat of a calling stations. Some of the players at these tables are peoples blind dogs pressing call and raise.

The key to these games is how unbelieveably bad many of the other players are. With the type/number of bad players you get at 3-6, they'd be pretty much of a crapshoot.

I haven't played it much but my concern is that, like Sklansky warns, if the antes are too high then everyone has odds to keep calling and you might as well turn your cards up and see who wins.

Is it that bad? Or just close?

I actually cut my teeth on the 0.5/1 party games. They are very beatable. Yes the ante is high; but when you have 4-5 people seeing 4th nearly every hand the pot will be large even if the ante were half its size. Just expect bigger than normal swings play smart and watch the money roll on in.

This is the problem, the only time I played .5/1.00 is when I didn't have enough money to play higher...hence I couldn't handle the swings.

Thanks for the responses guys. I have a brother who's currently trying to play there, and he's feeling the swings.

Tell him to make the jump up to 1/2 as soon as possible. Ante is same amount(0.25), and there's probably 1 less fish per table than .5/1(so just 6 fish as opposed to 7).
