Default 5-10 river scare

A bit of a newbie to the NL world, hopefully this isn't completely standard.

5-10(site with no hand histories), sat down very recently, no reads.

Hero has ~$1k
Villain has ~$800

Hero has JcJd in SB.
4 limpers, including villain on button, Hero SB calls $5 more, BB(unknown) checks.

Flop ($60):
8s 4d 3d

Hero bets $50, all fold to button who calls.

Turn ($160):
8s 4d 3d (6s)

Hero bets $100, button calls.

River ($360):
8s 4d 3d (6s) (As)

Hero ???

Results to follow.

I would bet a bit more than 150 on the river, thats less than half the pot and your flop/turn bet have been more than that.

I would bet ~225 and fold to a raise, I get the impression that the villain is in there with two big diamonds, but I doubt he has the nut draw because I think he would have raise a SB bet on a ragged board with the nut flush draw and the ace over. I think betting 150 sets you up to get raised representing top two.

I don't think there can be much value gained by raising 5 limpers from the worst position with a mediocre hand like JJ.

I bet $100 and he raised to $300 and I folded. I think my bet was too obviously a blocking bet and I definitely bet too small. Not many hands that I could put him on other than A8suited or an A high flush draw. Thanks for the responses.

i like to bet 300-400 on river to get him off of A5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. checking is also ok. betting 100 is a groos play unless you have reason to believe youre opponent is 100% retarded.

I like to mix it up here but I think this is a great situation for a check call. If you make a weak blocking bet a good player can take you off this hand. If you make a strong blocking bet, usually only an ace will call here. If you check/call here, the value you can extract from snapping off bluffs will most likely be greater than the value you would get from betting your jacks and having the Villain call with a worse hand.

Remember, you were losing to an ace or better anyways if you bet out and probably the same amount.

I limp there or make a 6-7xBB bet, nothing inbetween.
