Default Would you be mad at this guy?

I'll spare you the details of the hand, but the gist is the following: 2/5 NL Hold'em at Turning Stone, $300 max buy.

Hero has $500, Villain has him covered.

The chips end up all-in on the turn; Hero bets, Villain pushes, and Hero instantly calls.

Villain looks at Hero, smiles, and says "pocket aces."

Hero says "I know. I have two pair."

The river is a King, Hero sighs relief after dodging his eight-out bullet....

... and Villain shows KK to take the pot!?!?!?

Would this piss you off? The guy is a regular, a good player, and a nice guy -- I don't think he meant to angle-shoot, but needless to say this angered me more than if I'd just lost the pot.

Side note: why would you say that you have AA when you in fact have KK? To me, it seems like he knew he was beat when I called, because he didn't read me as a total fish who would call off his stack with one pair -- but what's the difference? Extra "deception"?

You answered your own question.

Well I was clearly annoyed, but I'm wondering if you would be as well.

EDIT: Sorry, misread your post at first.

That's sort of an [censored] move... and this guy didn't seem like an [censored]; you think he honestly did it for the miniscule chance that the river was actually a king?

If the river paired another card on the board and then he showed me KK, I'd just think it was weird. The part that pissed me off was the fact that I thought the king was a safe card. There were only two kings in the deck.

Maybe he was asking it as a question?

Was he asking the guy, "Pocket Aces??" and the guy miscontrued it as a statement instead of a question? That seems possible.

The "guy" (person with two pair, not KK) is me, and I'm almost positive that Villain was saying "pocket aces" as a statement. I considered your suggestion, but two factors lead me to believe that he meant to say that he himself had AA:

1) he looked apologetic when the king hit, in a more personal sense than "sorry I sucked out on you"

2) his voice inflection was pretty clearly not a question.

I always find lying disagreeable, unless it's done in a way and under the circumstances that it is pretty clear the person may not be telling you the truth.

Not an angle shoot and not deception because the all-in was already made.

I would think when you instacalled, he's saying "pocket aces" as a statement of fact meaning that he knows you have AA, which is his fear with KK.

Yea.. I think so too. I don't see someone saying that they have pocket aces here when they don't really have.

If an Ace hits the river, he'll look pretty foolish chucking his hand away when it would be the winner.

I think it's more likely this was just some sort of miscommunication, unless you had problems with the guy before.

Ignoring all the crockpot psyuchology, I'll asnwer your original question..

I would be no more or less mad than I normally am after losin ga big pot.

Poker players are lying bastards by trade, myself included. It couldn't be an angle shoot anyway since all the chips are already in the middle.
