Default Hello! Advanced poker technique...Dr. Paul Ekman...

from the Uinversity of California in San Francisco has written a program called "Cultivating Emotional Balance".
This program helps players read microexpressions on their opponents' faces and helps the players deal with their emotional state.
Happy pokering,

That's interesting! Is this the same fellow whose work was profiled in The New Yorker a few months back? His system was called F.A.C.E., and also used the term "micro-expression". How do we get this material?

I saw him on the Discovery Channel where he pointed out the specific facial twitch that gave away Bill Clinton's dishonesty during the infamous "I did not have sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky..." speech. From what I've been told, Ekman's studies on facial expressions are the most detailed of its kind. He has a .com under his name.

Do you recall what's the title of the Discovery Channel program? I'll be interested to watch it on the re-run which DC often does. Thanks.

Sorry, I can't remember. It was shown sometime in the past two years. It had something to do with either "crime investigation" or "psychology". One guy in the same show went even further. He put electrodes on people's heads and was able to determine almost with absolute certainty whether they were being honest or not.

Default Hello! Remember,cero,unless U are....

involved in upper middle limit or higher limit games, using your "mental energy" to study advanced techniques like "Game Theory" and "reading" subtle "tells" is generally a waste of your brain energy'.
You would do better by concentrating and reviewing/studying basic strategy , "obvious" tells, and selecting games where u believe U have a hugh advantage. The greater your overall advantage over time, the less effort U will have to exert to be a consistent overall winner over the long stretch. U can then use your remaining energy to "smell the roses" and have some fun(LOL)!
The same idea can be applied to the "mathematics" of the games.
Concentrate on situations where U will need to understand the MOST frequent occurances and their odds/probabilities.
Don't waste your energy on "rare" situations.
The "rare" occurances are usually of theoretical interests. These situations have little practical application since they occur infrequently.
The bottom line is this:
Define your goal/objective.
If U can accomplish your goal by NOT working too hard, then Y put in the extra effort and expend your energy?
U would be better off reserving this mental/physical energy by playing poker for a longer period of time.
However,if U are at a table where your overall edge is not that great,U will have to work harder to achieve your objective.

Happy pokering,
Sitting Bull
