Default Who else is taking the day off?

I'm not playing today, because I want to preserve a winning month.

I'm only up 47 BB in the last 17k hands (since June 1), so if I lost that at lunch today, I'd be right pissed.

Obviously from an expected value point of view, this is nonsense, but I think it's almost essential psychologically.

Who's with me?

I think there's some snakes rattling around in your hand here.

You need to spend less time worrying about BB for the month and more time playing your best poker all the time.

It's clear if you played today, you could very well be carrying a "It's the end of the month, I need to be careful" attitude and that's definently not any good.

Exactly. I can start fresh on the first and not worry.

I feel your pain, but that's a lousy reason not to play. Stop worrying about your results, post hands when it might be useful.

Maybe you should stop imposing these things you call "calendars" onto poker.

I think this is a good point. If you do actually feel that you need to finish up for the month then you are definitely better off not playing today.

Perhaps it would help your line of thought if you looked at your winnings through PokerGrapher or something like that. Check your BB's / # Hands, rather than BB's per day or per month. Then you get out of the "i want to finish up so i'm going to stop" mentality and start thinking "the more hands I can play, the more I can win!"

Sometimes I don't care, other times I do. I am going to play small tonight if I play to insure one of my best months. The last time I was having a great month I blew most of it back in one session.

Do whatever you need to do.

Good luck in July.

I'm sure everyone will give you responses like that makes no sense if the game is good blah blah blah +EV crap.

But the fact of the matter is that most 2+2 people would make more money if they accepted the fact they are emotional beings with psychological quirks and problems that, if not accepted, catered to and dealt with, will impact their bottom line.

You have recognized a psychological quirk in yourself, identified it and handled it in the best, most responsible way you could. Good job. +++EV in terms of money and life happiness. Don't let anyone tell you different.

Do whatever will make you happy. I believe your rationale for not playing today is garbage, since you're a winning player and thus the more you play, the more money you're making.

Sure, there's a lot of talk about how you do for the month, but today is just a day like any other day and tomorrow is just the next day in line. It really doesn't matter that today happens to be the last day of June and tomorrow a new month begins.

With that said, you don't sound like you want to play today, so don't. I know I'll be playing, and maybe I'll even get out of the red for the month.
