I don't think you'll be able to make it another half hour without winning one.

Re: How long can I go without winning a hand?
I have run many simulations using various playing styles for all ten seats and let each one run for a long time. I use Wilson's Turbo Texas Hold'em. I frequently let setups run for one or more million hands.
The tight players can have longer losing streaks than the loose guys even though they wind up with a lot more money. One more thing: a definition of losing. I am using it as hands between wins. If a hand is not entered and you are not a blind, no money is lost but it isn't a win so it counts as a hand between wins. Anyway, typically the longest streaks are in the area of 150 hands between wins. I don't think I have never experienced that personally. Playing online at 50 hands per hour that's three hours. At 25 per hour (at a live table) that's six hours. Statistics are smooth but the real world is "lumpy." That's what so-called streaks are - lumpiness showing. It means that yes, assuming you play decent poker, you might have a run of bad hands and bad beats, but you also have runs of abnormal numbers of wins too. Win streaks are never long. Four in a row is rare even if you're burning up the table. However, for winning players, the average win is a lot more dollars than the average not-win (hands not played or played but not won), so in the long run the losing (not winning) streaks are not a statistical problem, but they sure can be an emotional one. |

it happens.

Re: How long can I go without winning a hand?
thank god I haven't run into that yet
the worst I've had in a long time was a 70BB downswing, but I'm pretty sure that was because I was playing losing poker, not because I was taking the bad end of variance. At the time I didn't really understand pot equity and folded way too much for one bet on the river. I've fixed that now. in response to OP, technically you could never be dealt a winning hand. Hopefully the people on this forum get dealt more than most. Just wait it out. |
