Default TUNICA > New Horseshoe Room Opens Tonight

Anyone Going down?

I'm about 50/50 for some 4/8. I've got a budd in town from NC staying down at the shoe and figured I'd go sit with him . Wondering if anyone's seen the room yet or if anyone was planning on going down tonight.

Chipr777 shot me a PM earlier today and said it's about 80% done due to some late glitches.

About 2 hours ago I talked with our manager and 12 of the 16 tables were up and running. I'm sure all 16 are going by now. There were a few glitches early this morning with the way the tables were set up (gaming issues) but everything worked out. I'm off the next 2 days so I'll post in a couple days with how things went.

I walked past it on Wednesday and it looks GREAT!

They didn't have the tables in there yet but you could see the general design and the HDTV's, etc. The carpets weren't quite laid out all the way but it pretty much looked complete.

Even my GF (who doesn't gamble at all) was impressed and thought it looked VERY nice.

Will be VERY interested to see it now that it's up and running.
I wasn't THAT interested before...just mildly so. But seeing the almost-finished product REALLY got my attention.

It is obvious that the 'shoe' put some serious time, thought and moo-lah into this new room and that they had every intention of building an absolutely PREMIER poker-room which I believe they have done.

I was pretty damned impressed...and I haven't even seen the finished product yet.

Just got back for Tunica, and the new room is very nice. The bad beat jackpot got hit. It was a little over 77,000. The losing hand got 30%, the winning hand got 20%, and the remainder was split between all tables playing that level. I think it was 4/8; and I think 4 9's beat 4 4's.

I went to the HS tonight. Pretty nice - room plenty of space. The HDTVs are great. Snack bar very close - could probably use a person besides the chiprunner taking the food orders though.

The jackpot was nice too - I snagged a players share - a little over $700 . (FTR, it was quad 9's beating quad 6's.)

Mini trip report:

Showed up about 10:00 as the 10/20 game was starting up. The room is very nice. Plenty of room, well-lit and ventilated.

There is one thing I don't like about the Horseshoe: the regulars in the 10/20 game. They're a big bunch of loser assholes, IMO (of course, there are exceptions to this rule, but not many).

I had an "incident" this afternoon.

I'm in the 2 seat. I pick up AK[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] UTG+1. 2+2er d10 is UTG and folds. I raise. Fold around to the BB (a tourist) in the 10 seat who calls and is all in. As the dealer is putting out the flop I flip my cards up, and when the BB sees them she keeps hers face down. Flop is AKx with two clubs. Turn and river are small clubs. Dealer throws the stub in the muck to his left, BB releases her hand face down, dealer picks it up and sets it down on his right hand side. Dealer then hesitates for a second to do some mundane housekeeping (fiddling with his change tray or something). Annoying alcoholic donk lady in the 6 seat (a regular, from what I gather) says "hey lady, are you sure you don't have a club?" I BARELY stop myself from (literaly) saying "hey lady, shut the [censored] up if you're not in the [censored] hand." BB grabs her hand and flips it up, and sure enough, she's got 89o (something along those lines), with one club. I immediately point out that she mucked, and the table agrees, and the dealer calls the floor. Of course, I know what the outcome is going to be at this point, and I've already decided I'm not going to make an issue about it since it's a very small pot. Anyway, since her hand didn't actually touch the muck, it's obviously retrievable and is ruled live, and she gets the pot.

I have to agree with the floor's decision, though there were a bunch of errors leading up to it that basically resulted in me losing a pot that I should have gotten.

1) The dealer should have actually mucked the hand as soon as it was released.

2) the 6 seat should have kept her big fat nose out of it and observed the one player to a hand rule. I didn't think about this rule at the time, is there any way this hand should have been killed because of this?

Oh yeah, one other thing... they need more waitresses working the poker room! There was like one girl working the entire room today. Very, very slow service. She was trying her best, but she was way overloaded.

You guys start paying for the drinks, and they'll send a platoon of waitresses.

One more thing... They had a 10/20 must move table running to feed the main game I was sitting at. At one point, we had an open seat, and when it wasn't filled within 15 seconds, several of the regulars (including annoying lady I mentioned earlier) starting complaining (big time). The floor came over and explained that the shift supervisor had decided to leave the seat open because the must move game only had 7 or 8 players. Personally, I thought this was a great decision, but the regulars went apeshit. Well, it would have been better to just not have a must-move in the first place, but given that they had one, I thought it was good that the room management decided to keep the games somewhat balanced over the objections of a few complaining nits.

I enjoy playing with a lot of the 10/20 regulars, but that group yesterday was the worst of them. There was one guy I used to enjoy playing with but I lost most of my respect for him yesterday. Someone asked the dealer to change the deck, so he pulled out the other deck which we had been playing with earlier and said "OK I'll use this one, but it's not a new deck." Then the guy in question said "Hell no don't use that old deck, get a new setup." I looked at him and laughed a little bit cause I thought he was joking, he's a decent player who's never been a nit about meaningless stuff like that before. But then I realized he was serious, and the dealer had to get a new setup. That group yesterday was a bunch of tight nits and made the game very unenjoyable.

Although I can't say too many bad things about the lady in the 6 seat. She would limp-reraise with AA and only AA and her hand would shake so badly when she picked up a good hand she could barely get her chips out. She pulled that move when I raised her with some decent hand and I flopped 2-pair or something so I pumped that pot up like I had the nuts. I cracked Aces twice yesterday and mine held up the one time I had them. That was a big pot, although I played it pretty weak. I 3-bet then capped PF, so I thought I was making it clear what I had, then the 4-better bets out on a J-high raggedy flop so I assume he has to know what I have and he wouldn't bet into me without something that beats me. I don't know if he did have me beat but I was about to go into call-down mode until an A came on the turn. Yes I know, weak.

Oddly enough I was up about $750 at one point playing that table full of tight nits. I was really just trying to hold on until the night came around and the table loosened up, but I was hitting some great cards in some big pots. But when the night did come I went completely card-dead. For about 8 hours straight my best hand was AKo, which I was dealt once, which was the only hand with an A I played in that time. I was getting ground down back to my original buy-in when I decided waiting for my cards to turn around was just not enjoyable when I'm only seeing 20-30 hands/hour. There was some horrible player who went to the river with anything and luckboxed his way into over $2000 when he arrived at my table. I bet into him on the river with some weak holding and he called. I thought I was beat but I turned over my garbage and he said "It's good." But even that wasn't enough to keep me around. I was too tired to play well anyways. I played one hand where the flop was 955, I held T9 and I thought my opponent had a big pocket pair. I hit a T on the turn and thought "Awesome, I just counterfeited that pair on the board, I have a higher 2 pair now." So I'm raising this guy and when we get to showdown my opponent flips over QQ and I turn my cards over and proudly announce "Two pair, tens and nines!" and be sure to point out to the dealer that my smaller pair is bigger than his smaller pair of 5s, and the dealer is like "Uhhh, he's got 2 pair with Queens." and then I feel like an idiot. That was like a $100 mistake, so I decided to leave with less than $100 profit for the 14 hour session.

The new room was very nice though. And there was some cocktail waitress working the night shift who was smoking hot. I'd never seen her there before, not sure if she was new or got pulled from some other part of the casino to help in the poker room, but she was the best looking cocktail waitress I had ever seen, and it's not even close. It's too bad I'll be moving next month. I'd like to play there again. I might try to make it down there again before I leave but I'm going to be pretty busy, so that probably won't happen.
