I would 3-bet the flop, lead the turn, and probably check/call the river.

What does this accomplish over the line that Bruiser chose?

On the flop you may have the best hand or may not. But even if you don't, you probably have something like 14 outs + backdoor straight draw. You will improve by the river roughly half the time. So I'd say jam the flop since as long as you aren't up against a set I think you are probably a favorite to win the hand.

Now UTG is caught in there too; maybe he is peeling with overcards or a draw, and if we pressure him out of the pot, fine, our pair of nines may be currently best and with him out it's more likely our pair holds up on the river unimproved. If he sticks around, fine, we have massive pot equity.

About the river. It's not a great card for bruiser, could hit a lot of hands (i.e. JT, KQ, AQ) to beat him. Against some opponents I could maybe see a thin value bet, but I think check/call is better especially since we are still 3-way, and you may get a better nine to give you a free showdown.

I knew this was why you took the action, but I would usually look to isolate in this situation.
What about your hand/draw made you want the extra caller, since another raise would still result in the same number of bets for that street - especially if you were going to lead the turn when a brick falls.

I didn't realize a pair of nines was such a strong hand. As for your OP, Fianchetto hit the nail on the head.

Given your line, i think you might save a bet when you are beat sometimes by checking the river and gain a bet by getting a bluff out of whiffed overs, flush draws, etc...
